Traditional SPRING AND FALL FIELD TRIPS!

We are now booking Spring 2024 field trips starting April 15th through the end of May, Mondays through Thursday.

A field trip to the Smith’s Nursery Strawberry Field or Pumpkin Patch is a fun and educational addition to the school year.  Our field trips are catered to preschool classes, elementary school classes, special needs individuals, church groups, and more.  A field trip to Smith’s Nursery will teach the importance of farming, fruit, pollination, and wildlife. Our field trip takes about 1 1/2 hours.

In the Spring, our staff will teach how strawberries are grown, the proper way to pick them, and then let each child pick a basket of berries in a section of our field reserved just for you!  Irrigation for the strawberries and plants comes from two ponds on the property.  We will visit one of the ponds, learn a little about pond life, observe turtles, catfish, and purple martins as they fly above us, and nest in the houses at the pond.  The farm animals will provide lots of laughs and a lesson on raising livestock.  We'll check the chicken coop for eggs. Lastly, we'll look into an empty beehive and learn the importance of honeybees and their roles in strawberry production!  We'll taste a little honey, too! The spring field trip requires a minimum of 10 paying children.

Smith's Nursery offers a wonderful Pumpkin Patch field trip in the fall.  Students will learn how pumpkins are grown and each child will receive a small pumpkin to take home. Classes will travel around the nursery on an exciting hayride!  We will stop by a Native American camp for a brief history lesson on the Native Americans who lived on this land. Each class will get to see some of the arrowheads and ancient pottery found in the pumpkin field. We will read the children a fun fall story perfect for encouraging literacy, group participation, and critical thinking skills. We'll also visit our donkey, horse, pigs, cow, sheep, and goats at the Swinging Bridge Goat Walk and watch as they play and climb to new heights! The Fall Field Trip requires a minimum of 10 paying attendants.

Parents and siblings are welcome on the field trips. We do charge for siblings 2 years and older who accompany the field trip group, as well as parents during the fall. During the spring field trip, parents do not have to pay to attend. They may pick strawberries at a per-pound rate. You will find that our farm is neat, clean, and fun. Bathroom facilities are available. Picnic tables are provided, bring bagged lunches for a picnic after the field trip, and enjoy our ice cream stand for some yummy snacks. Remember we serve Maple View Ice cream and it's really really good!!!
