Job Position:         Garden Center Sales Clerk

Location:               Smith’s Farm Market

 

 

Position Summary: The Garden Center Sales Clerk is asked to smile, greet and be courteous to customers.  It is also expected that the clerk works with management and all other Team Member to provide a high level of customer service and be a positive influence in the customer experience.  In this role it is important to be punctual, work your schedule, conduct yourself in a professional business manner at all times, assist in any way possible and as directed, provide for a clean and safe store environment, and help fulfill other duties as assigned.

 

Position Duties/Essential Job Functions:

1.       Great all customers and provide them all with prompt and highly friendly, courteous service or assistance.

2.       Confer with customers by telephone or in person to provide information about products or services, take or enter orders, cancel orders if needed, or obtain details of complaints.

3.       Check to ensure that appropriate changes were made to resolve customers problems.

4.       Stay current and have product knowledge of plants, flowers, services, soils, pots and more.

5.       Observe shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned by Department Manager.

6.       Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise.  Check and verify receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered. Check products for quality, count, and condition.

7.       Take product to storage or shelf areas.

8.       Open cartons and price, display, store or process product according to established Procedures and Policies.

9.       Keep Department Manager informed of low inventory conditions or spoilage problems.

10.   Handle damaged and spoiled products according to Company Policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.

11.   Assist customers with plant, pots, décor and accessory product selection and design floral and plant product based on customer needs.

12.   Assist customers by creating a personalized experience.

13.   Take an active role in maintaining and developing existing and new customer relationships, including following up as needed to ensure complete satisfaction.

14.   Contribute to the consistent maintenance of product merchandising, and participate in daily set up and break down of store.

15.   Attract potential customers by answering product and service questions; suggesting information about other products and services.

16.   Must be able to work most weekends during busy seasons (Spring & Fall)

17.   Be willing to help out Ice Cream Shack duties as time allows or during down times.

18.   Responsible for the maintenance of two restrooms at the store.

 

Qualifications:

·         Proficient reading, math, and cash handling skills required

·         Previous experience in customer sales and service.  A plus, but not required.

·         Demonstrated proficiency in the use and understanding of a computerized register system.

·         Proactively engage customers, promote product and sales, build customer relationships, and provide outstanding customer service that encourage customer loyalty and add value to the Smith’s brand.

·         Adhere to all department-related and company-related work rules and policies while upholding Smith’s core values of integrity, respect and excellence.

·         Must be able to work in outdoor environments and handle exposure to variations in weather and conditions.
